Monica Morales of Face to Face Visits Our Club

By Alice Kibwaa

Our speaker to today was Monica Morales, a Rotarian and one of the workers at Face to Face, an organization that serves HIV and underserved communities in Sonoma County.

It was sad to hear of raising concern of HIV infection and drug deaths in our county. It’s time to bring awareness to the forefront and save lives.

Officer Ryan Sullivan and Dolly Visit Our Club

By Elena Whorton

On February 1st Officer Ryan Sullivan, with the Cotati Police Department visited our club and introduced their newest member. Cotati, known as the City with a Heart, now gets to include floppy ears and a tail. Last October the Cotati Police Department welcomed its newest officer “Dolly” whose amazing sniffer will be utilized in finding people.

Per the Cotati PD Facebook post, did you know that in the United States:

  • Every 65 seconds, someone with Alzheimer’s goes missing.
  • Over half of individuals with autism have experienced wandering or going missing.
  • Six in 10 people living with dementia will wander at least once; many do so repeatedly.

“Dolly is here to make a real impact in reuniting those at risk due to Alzheimer’s, autism, and dementia along with other reasons, with their families. Her extraordinary skills will help us keep our entire community safe.”

The city of Cotati has been very fortunate to have some incredible leadership in the Police Department and we learned that among other County firsts, Cotati was the first to require mandatory body cams for all officers, the City was also the first to go all electric on their vehicles and now the City has exclusive bragging rights for having the first Blood Hound.

Our club was so impressed with the care and training that Officer Ryan Sullivan demonstrated to us during his presentation. We were also happy and relieved to learn that Dolly will be Ryan’s dog even after her retirement. A perfect partnership!
